Getachew Ayele
Master of weaving, now teaching apprentices
- 🇪🇹 Bahir Dar, Amhara, Ethiopia
- Old Bahir Dar Trades Guild
- 2007 to 2018
- English, Amharic, Spanish
I'm a weaving specialist. If you live around Bahir Dar, there's a good chance I've worked in a building near you.
Apprentices come in nervous and leave proud. That's my favorite part. I try to remember everyone's name.
I never expected anything in return, but a kind word always makes my day.
More about Getachew
Some of my old apprentices now run their own shops. I couldn't be prouder.
Crafts and trades
What gifts mean to Getachew: A gift would go toward tools for apprentices who can't afford their own.
