Fatuma Juma

Local weaving and leatherwork

  • 🇰🇪 Kakamega, Kakamega, Kenya
  • The Heritage Trades Guild
  • Since 1981
  • English, Swahili
My trade is weaving. I opened my own shop in 1981 in Kakamega and I'm still there most mornings. Apprentices come in nervous and leave proud. That's my favorite part. I try to remember everyone's name.

More about Fatuma

Some of my old apprentices now run their own shops. I couldn't be prouder.

Crafts and trades

What gifts mean to Fatuma: I'd put gifts toward a new set of tools for the next apprentice.
