I taught statistics at Sakura Academy in Shinjuku from 1982 to 2016. Most days I taught teenagers, and I kept a jar of spare pencils on my desk.
Over the years I had 680 students pass through my room. A few of them became teachers themselves, which still makes me smile.
I never expected anything in return, but a kind word always makes my day.
