I taught art at Kilimanjaro Primary School in Los Angeles from 1982 to 2012. Most days I taught Grade 8, and I wrote a short note to every student at the end of term.
I coached the school's volleyball team for a few seasons. We lost more than we won, and I'd do it all again.
More about Elena
Some of my favorite memories are from the school trip to the mountains, where nothing went to plan and everything turned out fine.
