I coached cross country at Saint Paul Athletic Club from 2017 to 2025. Most of my players were between 9 and 15, and a lot of them turned into friends for life.
Winning was never the point, though I won't pretend I didn't enjoy it. I kept a jar of spare pencils on my desk.
I never expected anything in return, but a kind word always makes my day.

What gifts mean to Eleanor: I'll put any gifts toward a small fund so no child misses a match because of money.
