I've practiced emergency medicine at Rio de Janeiro Children's Hospital since 1985. I started with a stethoscope and a borrowed desk and ended up knowing most of the town. Home visits were my favorite part, even when the roads weren't. I never expected anything in return, but a kind word always makes my day.
