I've spent eight years as a lecturer in computer science at Meadowbank Polytechnic in Soweto. I loved the lecture hall and loved office hours even more.
I'm happiest when a student comes to office hours with a question that makes me rethink something I've said for years. I run most mornings.
Hearing from old faces is the best part of my week.
More about Dr. Coetzee
I retired from full-time teaching but still mentor a few students a year.
What gifts mean to Dr. Coetzee: I'd put a gift toward a student bursary.
