I've spent 13 years as a lecturer in materials science at San Diego State University in San Diego. I loved the lecture hall and loved office hours even more.
Former students now work as a mechanic and in a dozen other fields. It's the best part of this job.
I never expected anything in return, but a kind word always makes my day.
More about Dr. Álvarez
Some of my favorite days were field trips that went spectacularly wrong.
What gifts mean to Dr. Álvarez: Any gift helps me keep buying books for students who can't afford them.
