I've been a nurse for 45 years, most of them in community health at Holy Cross Maternity Hospital in San Francisco. Night shifts taught me patience, and patients taught me everything else.
The thing I'm proudest of is that families usually remember my name. I run most mornings.
It has been a good run and I'm grateful for all of it.
