Dedi Umar Sihombing
Master of carpentry, now teaching apprentices
- 🇮🇩 Surakarta, Central Java, Indonesia
- Willow Creek Trades Guild
- 2016 to 2024
- English, Indonesian
I've worked in carpentry from 2016 to 2024. I learned from my uncle and passed what I could on to 460 apprentices.
Apprentices come in nervous and leave proud. That's my favorite part. I try to remember everyone's name.
I never expected anything in return, but a kind word always makes my day.

Crafts and trades
What gifts mean to Dedi: I'd put gifts toward a new set of tools for the next apprentice.
