I coached tennis at Beacon Youth Club from 1978 to 1989. Most of my players were between 11 and 14, and a lot of them turned into friends for life.
Winning was never the point, though I won't pretend I didn't enjoy it. I kept a jar of spare pencils on my desk.
More about Coach Vijay
I still keep the team photo from our best season on the wall.
What gifts mean to Coach Vijay: A gift would go toward kit and bus fares for kids who can't afford them.
