Coach Mariko
Youth chess coach and mentor
- 🇯🇵 Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japan
- Shinjuku Eastgate Community Club
- Since 1989
- Japanese
For 37 years I've run the chess program at Shinjuku Eastgate Community Club in Shinjuku. We trained 4 evenings a week, whatever the weather.
Winning was never the point, though I won't pretend I didn't enjoy it. I always have a bag of oranges in my drawer.

Some of my former players now coach their own teams, which is the best thank-you I could ask for.
