I coached badminton at Frangipani Swimming Club from 1981 to 2008. Most of my players were between 12 and 14, and a lot of them turned into friends for life.
Winning was never the point, though I won't pretend I didn't enjoy it. I never once raised my voice.
It has been a good run and I'm grateful for all of it.
