I coached rowing at Chicago Silverlake Sports Club from 1980 to 2000. Most of my players were between 12 and 14, and a lot of them turned into friends for life.
Winning was never the point, though I won't pretend I didn't enjoy it. I wrote a short note to every student at the end of term.

What gifts mean to Coach Cynthia: I'll put any gifts toward a small fund so no child misses a match because of money.
