Coach Akinyi

Youth chess coach and mentor

  • 🇹🇿 Zanzibar City, Zanzibar Urban/West, Tanzania
  • Since 2003
  • English, Swahili
For 23 years I've run the chess program at Zanzibar City Victory Swimming Club in Zanzibar City. We trained 3 evenings a week, whatever the weather. Practice always ended with the same rule: nobody walks home alone. I bake for the whole street at New Year.

More about Coach Akinyi

Some of my former players now coach their own teams, which is the best thank-you I could ask for.

What gifts mean to Coach Akinyi: A gift would go toward kit and bus fares for kids who can't afford them.
