Birtukan Eden Taye

Oud player and teacher in Addis Ababa

  • 🇪🇹 Addis Ababa, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
  • Lotus Music School
  • 2006 to 2017
  • English
I play oud and drums. I started in 2006 with a secondhand instrument and a lot of stubbornness. I teach about 14 students a week. Some of them are better than me now, which is the whole point. I paint watercolors of whatever is outside the window.

More about Birtukan

I wrote my first song when I was 19. It was terrible and I still love it.

What gifts mean to Birtukan: A gift would go toward new strings, repairs and music for my students.
