Bakari Byaruhanga Lubega
Shoemaking, done properly
- 🇰🇪 Mombasa, Mombasa, Kenya
- Since 2007
- English, Swahili, French
My trade is shoemaking. I opened my own shop in 2007 in Mombasa and I'm still there most mornings.
Apprentices come in nervous and leave proud. That's my favorite part. I'm usually the first one in and the last to leave.
It has been a good run and I'm grateful for all of it.

If I fixed something for you, I hope it's still holding.
Crafts and trades
What gifts mean to Bakari: I'd put gifts toward a new set of tools for the next apprentice.
