Auma Irene Mutua
Master of blacksmithing, now teaching apprentices
- 🇺🇬 Jinja, Eastern Region, Uganda
- Phoenix Workshop
- Since 1979
- English, Swahili, Spanish
I've worked in blacksmithing since 1979. I learned from my uncle and passed what I could on to 1,880 apprentices.
The best compliment I ever got was a customer who called me back 14 years later for another job.
I never expected anything in return, but a kind word always makes my day.
Crafts and trades
What gifts mean to Auma: I'd put gifts toward a new set of tools for the next apprentice.
