I taught music at Hillcrest Middle School in Tokyo from 2003 to 2011. Most days I taught Year 10, and I kept a jar of spare pencils on my desk.
My classroom was always a bit noisy, a bit untidy and usually full of people who came for the biscuits.
It has been a good run and I'm grateful for all of it.
More about Akira
The students I remember best weren't always the top of the class. They were the ones who asked "why?" when nobody else did.
