I coached basketball at Eldoret Football Club from 2014 to 2023. Most of my players were between 10 and 16, and a lot of them turned into friends for life.
Winning was never the point, though I won't pretend I didn't enjoy it. I kept a jar of spare pencils on my desk.
It has been a good run and I'm grateful for all of it.

What gifts mean to Akinyi: I'll put any gifts toward a small fund so no child misses a match because of money.
