Xiu was diagnosed with severe cataracts in both eyes in June. The surgeon at Minneapolis Community Hospital recommended hip replacement surgery, and She is scheduled for August. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $9,250, and after what the public health scheme will pay we're still $6,850 short. my daughter has been in and out of Minneapolis Community Hospital since June. The doctors say severe cataracts in both eyes will get worse without hip replacement surgery. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $9,250 is more than we can find. While we wait, Xiu struggles with daily life and can't drive. Her family has taken turns caring for her, and I've cut my own work hours to be there. Rehabilitation is expected to take about 6 weeks. During that time Xiu won't be able to drive, so the costs keep growing.
