A simple way to help: donate warm clothing for kids at the Harmony Family Centre.

I coordinate donations at the Harmony Family Centre in Los Angeles. Every year around this time we hear from families who have nothing warm for their children, and this year demand has more than doubled.
We're collecting clean, gently used or new coats, boots, hats, gloves and scarves in sizes kids' 3 to 5 and women's S-L. If you're in Los Angeles, we can arrange a pick-up or you can drop things at the Harmony Family Centre on Friday between 9am and 4pm.
If you're elsewhere, you may offer to sponsor a coat through a local shop - message in the comments and we can coordinate.
Items go to families directly and the rest to the the Harmony Family Centre clothing bank, which is open to everyone.
Thanks for being kind about this.

I hope things turn around soon. Sent it to 22 people at work
good luck. I was in a similar spot a few years ago and it did get better. God bless.
Sending love, Joshua. Hope this works out for you.
