The the Second Helping pantry in San Jose is running low just as demand rises; $1,750 will stock it for 6 weeks.

Since 2023, our volunteer team has run the Second Helping every Tuesday from the back of a school canteen. We started with 12 families, and now we feed 105 each week. Donations have dropped by about 60% this rainy season, while the line has grown every single week. We rely on volunteers - 9 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the San Jose market and keep every receipt. Each $30 feeds a family of four for a week. All of the funds go to groceries, fresh produce, and cold-storage costs. Where the $1,750 goes: • Baby formula and diapers: $400 • Refrigeration and electricity: $320 • Fresh vegetables and fruit: $1,030 Even a small gift gets used right away and I'll thank you myself.

Updates from Clara

  1. Quick update: $75 raised so far (4%). I made the first payment toward refrigeration and electricity. Receipts coming as soon as I have them.

  2. Small update. $55 so far, we've booked the dates and paid the deposit. - Clara

Keep going, Clara. More neighborhoods should do this. Greetings from Miami.

Sending good thoughts, Clara. This could happen to any of us. Love from Saint-Étienne

      • Hope this works out for you. I went through something like this 13 years ago and strangers helped me out. All the best.
