Weekly meals for students and shift workers in Salem
The Bread & Beans Kitchen pantry in Salem is running low just as demand rises; $3,400 will stock it for 9 weeks.

Since 2023, our volunteer team has run Bread & Beans Kitchen every Thursday from the back of the mosque courtyard. We started with 16 families, and now we feed 121 each week.
Donations have dropped by about 30% this winter, while the line has grown every single week.
We rely on volunteers - 6 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Salem market and keep every receipt.
Each $55 feeds a family of four for a week.
All of the funds go to groceries, fresh produce, and cold-storage costs.
Where the $3,400 goes:
• Refrigeration and electricity: $330
• Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $2,450
• Baby formula and diapers: $620
