Weekly meals for students and shift workers in Nijmegen
The Open Hands Pantry pantry in Nijmegen is running low just as demand rises; $2,700 will stock it for 12 weeks.

Since 2021, our volunteer team has run Open Hands Pantry every Saturday from the back of the mosque courtyard. We started with 22 families, and now we feed 289 each week.
Donations have dropped by about 49% this school holidays, while the line has grown every single week.
We rely on volunteers - 10 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Nijmegen market and keep every receipt.
Each $45 feeds a family of four for a week.
I'll post the weekly shopping receipts and a photo of the shelves each Sunday.
Where the $2,700 goes:
• Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $1,250
• Fresh vegetables and fruit: $670
• Baby formula and diapers: $380
• Refrigeration and electricity: $400

Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Huda.
Sure. The biggest one is rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale), $1,250. The rest is in the list at the bottom of the post and I'll upload receipts as I pay each one. I'll keep the page updated.
