Weekly meals for students and shift workers in Manila
Juan runs a volunteer pantry feeding 106 families; this fund restocks shelves for the summer.

Since 2020, our volunteer team has run Bread & Beans Kitchen every Friday from the back of the parish hall. We started with 16 families, and now we feed 106 each week.
Donations have dropped by about 58% this summer, while the line has grown every single week.
We rely on volunteers - 20 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Manila market and keep every receipt.
Each $5 feeds a family of four for a week.
I'll post the weekly shopping receipts and a photo of the shelves each Sunday.
Where the $500 goes:
• Refrigeration and electricity: $70
• Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $210
• Fresh vegetables and fruit: $220
Thanks for reading all this.

Thinking of you, Juan. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. I went through something like this 12 years ago and strangers helped me out. Take care.
you're not alone, Juan. Looking forward to the next update.
You're not alone. Looking forward to the next update. We lost years of savings to something like this so I get it. Thinking of Manila.
Sending love, Juan. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. Please keep us posted
