Weekly meals for students and shift workers in Makassar
The the Second Helping pantry in Makassar is running low just as demand rises; $300 will stock it for 8 weeks.

Since 2021, our volunteer team has run the Second Helping every Wednesday from the back of a school canteen. We started with 20 families, and now we feed 133 each week.
Donations have dropped by about 36% this summer, while the line has grown every single week.
We rely on volunteers - 10 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Makassar market and keep every receipt.
Each $10 feeds a family of four for a week.
I'll post the weekly shopping receipts and a photo of the shelves each Sunday.
Where the $300 goes:
• Baby formula and diapers: $35
• Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $230
• Refrigeration and electricity: $35
Glad we found this place.
