The Open Hands Pantry pantry in Fort Portal is running low just as demand rises; $350 will stock it for 11 weeks.

Fort Portal
Since 2020, our volunteer team has run Open Hands Pantry every Wednesday from the back of a school canteen. We started with 13 families, and now we feed 226 each week. Donations have dropped by about 43% this rainy season, while the line has grown every single week. We rely on volunteers - 17 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Fort Portal market and keep every receipt. Each $5 feeds a family of four for a week. All of the funds go to groceries, fresh produce, and cold-storage costs. Where the $350 goes: • Fresh vegetables and fruit: $90 • Baby formula and diapers: $100 • Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $160 You're what makes this possible, and I'll never forget it. - Otieno
