Albany
Since 2019, our volunteer team has run Bread & Beans Kitchen every Tuesday from the back of the old library basement. We started with 8 families, and now we feed 188 each week. Donations have dropped by about 40% this harvest gap, while the line has grown every single week. We rely on volunteers - 19 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Albany market and keep every receipt. Each $40 feeds a family of four for a week. I'll post the weekly shopping receipts and a photo of the shelves each Sunday. Where the $3,300 goes: • Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $2,050 • Fresh vegetables and fruit: $610 • Baby formula and diapers: $360 • Refrigeration and electricity: $280 Thank you for reading my story. - Julia

Sure. The biggest one is rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale), $2,050. The rest is in the list at the bottom of the post and I'll upload receipts as I pay each one. Ask me anything else.

        • Sending good thoughts. Hope you get there. Greetings from Machakos.

          • Stay strong, Julia. Shared it with a few friends. My husband and I read this together. Love from Novosibirsk

            • Good luck. Hope the build day goes well, wish I lived closer. We had a similar scare last year, I know what it feels like.
