Since 2022, our volunteer team has run the Second Helping every Saturday from the back of the mosque courtyard. We started with 10 families, and now we feed 347 each week. Donations have dropped by about 60% this rainy season, while the line has grown every single week. We rely on volunteers - 6 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Addis Ababa market and keep every receipt. Each $5 feeds a family of four for a week. I'll post the weekly shopping receipts and a photo of the shelves each Sunday. Where the $250 goes: • Fresh vegetables and fruit: $90 • Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $115 • Refrigeration and electricity: $45 If you're reading this, thank you. - Yared

Stay strong, Yared. More neighborhoods should do this. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected. Blessings.

    • Rooting for you, Yared. Your post was clear and honest. After 14 years in social work I know how hard it's to ask for anything.
