Weekly meals for neighbors in need in Kasarani
The the Harvest Pantry pantry in Kasarani is running low just as demand rises; $500 will stock it for 7 weeks.
🇰🇪 Kasarani, Nairobi, Kenya703 views
Since 2020, our volunteer team has run the Harvest Pantry every Friday from the back of the mosque courtyard. We started with 29 families, and now we feed 344 each week.
Donations have dropped by about 37% this summer, while the line has grown every single week.
We rely on volunteers - 8 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Kasarani market and keep every receipt.
Each $5 feeds a family of four for a week.
All of the funds go to groceries, fresh produce, and cold-storage costs.
Where the $500 goes:
• Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $115
• Fresh vegetables and fruit: $230
• Baby formula and diapers: $100
• Refrigeration and electricity: $55
Ask me anything below before you decide. I'd rather you were sure.

is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Fatuma.
It's all in the list in the story. rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale) is the big one at $115, I'll post a receipt when it's paid. Thanks for looking so closely.
Sending good thoughts, Fatuma. It takes guts to ask. Well done. I hope November is when things finally get easier. God bless.
Wishing you peace, Fatuma. Great idea, hope you get there. Put this on a community board in London this morning.
You're not alone, Fatuma. Hope the build day goes well, wish I lived closer!
So sorry you're going through this. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. I hope November is when things finally get easier. All the best!
