Nairobi
Since 2019, our volunteer team has run Bread & Beans Kitchen every Sunday from the back of a borrowed garage. We started with 21 families, and now we feed 310 each week. Donations have dropped by about 56% this summer, while the line has grown every single week. We rely on volunteers - 17 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Nairobi market and keep every receipt. Each $10 feeds a family of four for a week. I'll post the weekly shopping receipts and a photo of the shelves each Sunday. Where the $650 goes: • Baby formula and diapers: $115 • Fresh vegetables and fruit: $155 • Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $380 I'll keep this page updated with receipts as things happen. - Njeri

Updates from Njeri

  1. Update from Nairobi: I made the first payment toward fresh vegetables and fruit. We're at 25% of the goal. Thank you for believing in us.

  2. Small update. $75 so far, I met with the wholesaler and confirmed the amounts.

  3. We're at 11% thanks to 2 of you. I made the first payment toward fresh vegetables and fruit. More news soon.
