Since 2023, our volunteer team has run Open Hands Pantry every Monday from the back of the mosque courtyard. We started with 27 families, and now we feed 74 each week.
Donations have dropped by about 44% this school holidays, while the line has grown every single week.
We rely on volunteers - 11 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Mérida market and keep every receipt.
Each $10 feeds a family of four for a week.
All of the funds go to groceries, fresh produce, and cold-storage costs.
Where the $1,200 goes:
• Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $540
• Fresh vegetables and fruit: $430
• Baby formula and diapers: $145
• Refrigeration and electricity: $85

We're at 20% thanks to 6 of you. I met with the wholesaler and confirmed the amounts. More news soon.
Small update. $167 so far, I made the first payment toward refrigeration and electricity.
Quick update: $17 raised so far (1%). the plan for baby formula and diapers is now scheduled. Receipts coming as soon as I have them.
