Since 2020, our volunteer team has run Bread & Beans Kitchen every Wednesday from the back of a school canteen. We started with 22 families, and now we feed 382 each week. Donations have dropped by about 38% this harvest gap, while the line has grown every single week. We rely on volunteers - 19 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Entebbe market and keep every receipt. Each $5 feeds a family of four for a week. All of the funds go to groceries, fresh produce, and cold-storage costs. Where the $350 goes: • Refrigeration and electricity: $55 • Fresh vegetables and fruit: $135 • Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $160 Please ask me anything in the questions section. I'll answer honestly and quickly.

  • thanks for sharing this, Onyango. It takes guts to ask. Well done. Take care.

    • more neighborhoods should do this. I'm in construction myself and wanted you to know we're cheering for you. Love from Bornova.

      • Wishing you the best, Onyango. Your post was clear and honest. Don't be hard on yourself for asking.

        • Stay strong, Onyango. Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. After 23 years in farming I know how hard it's to ask for anything

          • Best of luck, Onyango. Your post was clear and honest. This is the second need I've supported on here and the first that made me cry. Take care
