Weekly meals for families facing hunger in Columbus
The Bread & Beans Kitchen pantry in Columbus is running low just as demand rises; $2,900 will stock it for 6 weeks.

Since 2023, our volunteer team has run Bread & Beans Kitchen every Saturday from the back of the parish hall. We started with 30 families, and now we feed 86 each week.
Donations have dropped by about 47% this school holidays, while the line has grown every single week.
We rely on volunteers - 20 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Columbus market and keep every receipt.
Each $30 feeds a family of four for a week.
All of the funds go to groceries, fresh produce, and cold-storage costs.
Where the $2,900 goes:
• Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $1,150
• Fresh vegetables and fruit: $1,250
• Baby formula and diapers: $200
• Refrigeration and electricity: $300
