Weekly meals for families facing hunger in Bergamo
Help keep a free food pantry open for families facing hunger in Bergamo.
🇮🇹 Bergamo, Lombardy, ItalyPosted Aug 27, 20261,138 views
Since 2021, our volunteer team has run the Second Helping every Monday from the back of a school canteen. We started with 24 families, and now we feed 368 each week.
Donations have dropped by about 54% this rainy season, while the line has grown every single week.
We rely on volunteers - 15 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Bergamo market and keep every receipt.
Each $25 feeds a family of four for a week.
I'll post the weekly shopping receipts and a photo of the shelves each Sunday.
Where the $1,850 goes:
• Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $1,250
• Fresh vegetables and fruit: $400
• Refrigeration and electricity: $200
You're what makes this possible, and I'll never forget it.

Thinking of you and your family, Samir. It takes guts to ask. Well done. After 13 years in accounting I know how hard it's to ask for anything. Take care!
Wishing you peace, Samir. Great idea, hope you get there.
Stay strong, Samir. Hope you get there. Thinking of Bergamo
