Weekly meals for families facing hunger in Belfast
The the Sunday Shelf pantry in Belfast is running low just as demand rises; $1,850 will stock it for 10 weeks.
🇬🇧 Northern Ireland, United Kingdom905 views
Since 2019, our volunteer team has run the Sunday Shelf every Saturday from the back of a community center. We started with 25 families, and now we feed 285 each week.
Donations have dropped by about 33% this harvest gap, while the line has grown every single week.
We rely on volunteers - 19 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Belfast market and keep every receipt.
Each $50 feeds a family of four for a week.
I'll post the weekly shopping receipts and a photo of the shelves each Sunday.
Where the $1,850 goes:
• Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $680
• Fresh vegetables and fruit: $700
• Baby formula and diapers: $230
• Refrigeration and electricity: $240
Even a small gift gets used right away and I'll thank you myself.

Wishing you the best. Everyone deserves a bit of help sometimes. Greetings from Dar es Salaam
Thanks for sharing this, Jameson. Hope the build day goes well, wish I lived closer. I went through something like this 2 years ago and strangers helped me out. Blessings.
Best of luck. Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. Read this on the bus and kept thinking about it all day. Take care.
