Weekly meals for families facing hunger in Addis Ababa

The Community Pantry pantry in Addis Ababa is running low just as demand rises; $200 will stock it for 11 weeks.

Since 2022, our volunteer team has run Community Pantry every Sunday from the back of a borrowed garage. We started with 8 families, and now we feed 94 each week. Donations have dropped by about 56% this school holidays, while the line has grown every single week. We rely on volunteers - 8 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Addis Ababa market and keep every receipt. Each $5 feeds a family of four for a week. I'll post the weekly shopping receipts and a photo of the shelves each Sunday. Where the $200 goes: • Refrigeration and electricity: $25 • Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $135 • Baby formula and diapers: $40 Please ask me anything in the questions section. I'll answer honestly and quickly. - Almaz
