Weekly meals for elderly neighbors in Zagazig
The the Sunday Shelf pantry in Zagazig is running low just as demand rises; $300 will stock it for 7 weeks.

Since 2022, our volunteer team has run the Sunday Shelf every Monday from the back of a school canteen. We started with 23 families, and now we feed 96 each week.
Donations have dropped by about 52% this summer, while the line has grown every single week.
We rely on volunteers - 19 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Zagazig market and keep every receipt.
Each $5 feeds a family of four for a week.
I'll post the weekly shopping receipts and a photo of the shelves each Sunday.
Where the $300 goes:
• Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $135
• Fresh vegetables and fruit: $65
• Baby formula and diapers: $35
• Refrigeration and electricity: $65

Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Hiba!
Everything on the list is an amount I've been quoted or invoiced. rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale) comes first ($135) and I'll update the page as each thing gets paid. Good question.
