Weekly meals for elderly neighbors in Thủ Đức
Lệ runs a volunteer pantry feeding 246 families; this fund restocks shelves for the winter.
🇻🇳 Thủ Đức, Hồ Chí Minh City, Vietnam634 views
Since 2021, our volunteer team has run Neighbors' Pantry every Thursday from the back of a community center. We started with 27 families, and now we feed 246 each week.
Donations have dropped by about 53% this winter, while the line has grown every single week.
We rely on volunteers - 15 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Thủ Đức market and keep every receipt.
Each $5 feeds a family of four for a week.
I'll post the weekly shopping receipts and a photo of the shelves each Sunday.
Where the $300 goes:
• Baby formula and diapers: $70
• Fresh vegetables and fruit: $150
• Refrigeration and electricity: $80
Glad we found this place.
