Since 2022, our volunteer team has run the Second Helping every Tuesday from the back of a borrowed garage. We started with 30 families, and now we feed 372 each week.
Donations have dropped by about 51% this school holidays, while the line has grown every single week.
We rely on volunteers - 14 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Tacoma market and keep every receipt.
Each $40 feeds a family of four for a week.
All of the funds go to groceries, fresh produce, and cold-storage costs.
Where the $3,400 goes:
• Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $1,850
• Fresh vegetables and fruit: $900
• Baby formula and diapers: $380
• Refrigeration and electricity: $270

Everything on the list is an amount I've been quoted or invoiced. rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale) comes first ($1,850) and I'll update the page as each thing gets paid. Fair thing to want to know.
