Weekly meals for elderly neighbors in Rome
Alberto runs a volunteer pantry feeding 185 families; this fund restocks shelves for the school holidays.
🇮🇹 Rome, Lazio, Italy2,684 views
Since 2019, our volunteer team has run the Thursday Table every Monday from the back of the old library basement. We started with 14 families, and now we feed 185 each week.
Donations have dropped by about 36% this school holidays, while the line has grown every single week.
We rely on volunteers - 19 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Rome market and keep every receipt.
Each $35 feeds a family of four for a week.
I'll post the weekly shopping receipts and a photo of the shelves each Sunday.
Where the $2,500 goes:
• Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $1,350
• Fresh vegetables and fruit: $720
• Baby formula and diapers: $240
• Refrigeration and electricity: $190
Whatever you can give, even just sharing this page, means a lot.

Wishing you the best, Alberto. I hope things turn around soon.
Thanks for sharing this, Alberto. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. I told my book club about it and three of them are giving too. All the best.
