Weekly meals for elderly neighbors in Jaffna
The Neighbors' Pantry pantry in Jaffna is running low just as demand rises; $350 will stock it for 6 weeks.

Since 2020, our volunteer team has run Neighbors' Pantry every Thursday from the back of a community center. We started with 13 families, and now we feed 210 each week.
Donations have dropped by about 51% this summer, while the line has grown every single week.
We rely on volunteers - 19 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Jaffna market and keep every receipt.
Each $10 feeds a family of four for a week.
All of the funds go to groceries, fresh produce, and cold-storage costs.
Where the $350 goes:
• Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $200
• Fresh vegetables and fruit: $80
• Refrigeration and electricity: $70
With deep gratitude,
Madhavi
