Depok
Since 2021, our volunteer team has run Open Hands Pantry every Friday from the back of the old library basement. We started with 30 families, and now we feed 75 each week. Donations have dropped by about 47% this summer, while the line has grown every single week. We rely on volunteers - 14 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Depok market and keep every receipt. Each $5 feeds a family of four for a week. All of the funds go to groceries, fresh produce, and cold-storage costs. Where the $450 goes: • Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $260 • Fresh vegetables and fruit: $95 • Baby formula and diapers: $45 • Refrigeration and electricity: $50 Even a small gift gets used right away and I'll thank you myself.

Updates from Winda

  1. Good news. Because of your gifts ($175 in total) the plan for rice, beans, flour and oil is now scheduled. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely. - Winda

  2. 22% there. the plan for refrigeration and electricity is now scheduled. Thank you.

  3. 17% there. I made the first payment toward baby formula and diapers. Thank you.

    • Hope things get better soon. Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. I went through something like this 10 years ago and strangers helped me out.
