Weekly meals for elderly neighbors in Bogotá
The Community Pantry pantry in Bogotá is running low just as demand rises; $850 will stock it for 8 weeks.

Since 2023, our volunteer team has run Community Pantry every Wednesday from the back of the mosque courtyard. We started with 28 families, and now we feed 119 each week.
Donations have dropped by about 46% this summer, while the line has grown every single week.
We rely on volunteers - 13 of us - and keep no salaries or overhead. I buy staples at wholesale prices at the Bogotá market and keep every receipt.
Each $10 feeds a family of four for a week.
I'll post the weekly shopping receipts and a photo of the shelves each Sunday.
Where the $850 goes:
• Rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale): $380
• Fresh vegetables and fruit: $280
• Baby formula and diapers: $105
• Refrigeration and electricity: $85

Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Abril
Sure. The biggest one is rice, beans, flour and oil (wholesale), $380. The rest is in the list at the bottom of the post and I'll upload receipts as I pay each one. Good question.
Thanks for sharing this. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. My late mom used to say help given quietly counts double. All the best
