We lost everything in the hurricane: help Northside village start over

Neighbors in Northside village are rebuilding after the hurricane; every contribution goes to materials and supplies.

The hurricane hit Northside village on 2 September. My home was one of 52 damaged, and 7 families are still in temporary shelter at a borrowed warehouse. The first few days we shared what little we had. Now the cleanup has started, but we've no money for materials and winter or the rainy season is coming. Schools in the area have been closed, and the clinic lost its cold storage for vaccines. We're a small community of working families who have never asked for help before. We have formed a volunteer committee, and I'm the treasurer, so I'll post receipts for everything we buy. Funds go to building materials, water purification supplies, bedding, and food for families still in shelters. Where the $9,100 goes: • Bedding, blankets and mattresses: $520 • Roofing sheets and timber: $5,500 • Food parcels for displaced families: $1,250 • Tools and labor for repairs: $1,830 Glad we found this place.

keep going, Hang. More neighborhoods should do this. I told my book club about it and three of them are giving too. God bless.

                  • So sorry you're going through this, Hang. Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. After 30 years in farming I know how hard it's to ask for anything. All the best.
