We lost everything in the house fire that spread across the block: help the Orchard district start over
The house fire that spread across the block damaged 85 homes in the Orchard district. We're raising funds for repairs, supplies and temporary shelter.

The house fire that spread across the block hit the Orchard district on 21 July. My home was one of 85 damaged, and 11 families are still in temporary shelter at a mosque and church hall.
The first few days we shared what little we had. Now the cleanup has started, but we've no money for materials and winter or the rainy season is coming.
Schools in the area have been closed, and the clinic lost its cold storage for vaccines. We're a small community of working families who have never asked for help before.
We have formed a volunteer committee, and I'm the treasurer, so I'll post receipts for everything we buy.
We buy supplies locally and in bulk, so the money goes further. Receipts and photos will be posted in updates.
Where the $6,850 goes:
• Roofing sheets and timber: $3,150
• Clean water and purification supplies: $410
• Bedding, blankets and mattresses: $1,100
• Food parcels for displaced families: $1,500
• Tools and labor for repairs: $690
With deep gratitude,
Madeline

Wishing you the best, Madeline. It takes guts to ask. Well done. We had a similar scare last year, I know what it feels like. Greetings from Oaxaca de Juárez
