We lost everything in the heatwave: help the Marketplace neighborhood start over

The heatwave damaged 33 homes in the Marketplace neighborhood. We're raising funds for repairs, supplies and temporary shelter.

The heatwave hit the Marketplace neighborhood on 23 July. My home was one of 33 damaged, and 6 families are still in temporary shelter at the sports club. The first few days we shared what little we had. Now the cleanup has started, but we've no money for materials and winter or the rainy season is coming. Schools in the area have been closed, and the clinic lost its cold storage for vaccines. We're a small community of working families who have never asked for help before. We have formed a volunteer committee, and I'm the treasurer, so I'll post receipts for everything we buy. Funds go to building materials, water purification supplies, bedding, and food for families still in shelters. Where the $900 goes: • Tools and labor for repairs: $290 • Roofing sheets and timber: $330 • Food parcels for displaced families: $280 Every share and every dollar helps.

Updates from Ashok

  1. Wanted to say thank you properly. 63% funded and the plan for roofing sheets and timber is now scheduled.

  2. Thank you all. We're at 28% now ($255). I'm honestly stunned. I made the first payment toward roofing sheets and timber.
