The flash flood hit the Lakeview settlement on 14 August. My home was one of 18 damaged, and 7 families are still in temporary shelter at a mosque and church hall. The first few days we shared what little we had. Now the cleanup has started, but we've no money for materials and winter or the rainy season is coming. Schools in the area have been closed, and the clinic lost its cold storage for vaccines. We're a small community of working families who have never asked for help before. We have formed a volunteer committee, and I'm the treasurer, so I'll post receipts for everything we buy. We buy supplies locally and in bulk, so the money goes further. Receipts and photos will be posted in updates. Where the $8,300 goes: • Roofing sheets and timber: $3,250 • Clean water and purification supplies: $720 • Bedding, blankets and mattresses: $560 • Food parcels for displaced families: $1,700 • Tools and labor for repairs: $2,070 I never thought I'd be the one asking, and I'm grateful for every bit of support. - Graciela

Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. My daughter saw me on my phone and now she wants to give her pocket money. Take care!

Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Graciela.

It's all in the list in the story. roofing sheets and timber is the big one at $3,250, I'll post a receipt when it's paid. Thanks for asking.

So sorry you're going through this. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. After 30 years in hospitality I know how hard it's to ask for anything. Greetings from Gdynia.
