The fire in the informal settlement hit the Orchard settlement on 26 August. My home was one of 39 damaged, and 9 families are still in temporary shelter at the local school gym. The first few days we shared what little we had. Now the cleanup has started, but we've no money for materials and winter or the rainy season is coming. Schools in the area have been closed, and the clinic lost its cold storage for vaccines. We're a small community of working families who have never asked for help before. We have formed a volunteer committee, and I'm the treasurer, so I'll post receipts for everything we buy. Funds go to building materials, water purification supplies, bedding, and food for families still in shelters. Where the $2,150 goes: • Roofing sheets and timber: $610 • Clean water and purification supplies: $170 • Bedding, blankets and mattresses: $350 • Food parcels for displaced families: $420 • Tools and labor for repairs: $600 Thank you for reading my story.

Updates from Zola

  1. 18% there. the plan for roofing sheets and timber is now scheduled. Thank you.

  2. Wanted to say thank you properly. 9% funded and the plan for tools and labor for repairs is now scheduled.

  3. Thank you all. We're at 6% now ($130). I'm honestly stunned. I met with the suppliers and confirmed the amounts.

  • Wishing you the best, Zola. Hope the build day goes well, wish I lived closer. We had a similar scare last year, I know what it feels like.

    • You're not alone, Zola. Shared this with my family. My neighbor in Raleigh donated after I showed her your page. All the best.

      • Sending love. More neighborhoods should do this. The breakdown of costs made it easy to trust
